Best Travel to Kanha National Park, India

Best Indian Travel - Travel to Kanha National Park The very name of Kanha National Park comes to the mind, whenever you think of a Madhya Pradesh Wildlife Tour.

Squint up the Sal tree, look closely at the bamboo rushes on your right - you might spot Mowgli and Baloo sporting here. Kanha is Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book country - a large expanse of forests, verdant grasslands and silvers streams.

Kanha boasts of about 22 species of mammals. Apart from the stately tiger, this national park is the only habitat of the rare swamp deer or Barasingha. The Barasingha is certainly, the jewel of Kanha, and steps are being taken to save it from extinction. It is gratifying that some success has been achieved in this endeavor. Grasslands have been enlarged. Barasinghas survive almost totally on grass, and tall grass pastures are vital to their existence. The horseshoe shaped valley in which the reserve is set is watered by the Surpan and provides the ideal haunt for many animals.

Spotted deer, antelopes and black buck frolic around the meadows here. Hyena, jungle cats, chitals, nilgai, gaur and wild pigs rule the landscape and a large number of birds fill the skies with their cries.

The best way to explore Kanha is on elephant back. Riding on an elephant through the vast, open countryside is an exhilarating experience, one you are likely to remember forever. The park is open fro April to June, and from November to January.

Bamni Dadar, famous as Sunset Point, is the most striking section of the park, and the sight of the sunset from this site is absolutely exciting. You can spot around this area a few animals including the four-horned antelope, gaur, the sambar and the barking deer.

While here, you can also visit the museum within the park premises, which houses a good collection of artifacts relating to the tribal life of Madhya Pradesh.
