Best Travel to Kanyakumari

The literal translation of Kanyakumari is a virgin. Legend has that the beautiful princess Kanya Devi, one of the many forms of Parvati, was to marry Lord Shiva, the destroyer. But due to his inability to turn up at the auspicious time, wedding never took place. So the name Kanyakumari.
Located at the confluence of the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, Kanyakumari is the southernmost tip of India. Just beyond the tip of the land lies a huge rock on which is built the Vivekananda Memorial. This place was the meditation center of Vivekananda, one of the greatest persons of India. A number of Hindu pilgrims travel to this site.

Situated 34km from Kanyakumari, the fort was built by King Marthanda Varma (1729-1758AD). The tomb of king's trusted European general De Lennoy' is located within this fort.
